In the midst of political upheaval and heated polarization, remember whose opinion of you really matters. Today, I found this note in a book—written by Willow years ago. What a blessing to see this today as the harsh words of others have greatly affected me this past season.
We've been conditioned to label and lash out.
Maybe people don't contemplate that there's a person on the other side who reads those words and is caused such anguish.
Am I a racist? No.
Am I a monster because I don't believe what you believe? No.
Am I violent because I've been silent? No.
Am I not a Christian because I don't follow your group or hashtags? No.
Will I still be your friend? Yes.
If you need something, can I help? Yes
Will I love you, still? Yes.
Why?
Because I am a sinner who needs a Savior. Just like you. So, as far as labels go, I'll choose this one. #sinner And, I'll remember who God says I am. And, I'll forgive. And, probably cry some more. And, I'll smile at what my daughter says I am.
